Chris Sutton expecting Scotland upset

Chris Sutton expecting Scotland upset

Defeat for England in tonight's friendly with Scotland would represent a "massive disappointment", according to former Three Lions hitman Chris Sutton.

Roy Hodgson's side are favourites to protect a 29-year unbeaten record against the Scots in what is expected to be a feisty affair at Celtic Park this evening.

However, Sutton says that victory is by no means a foregone conclusion, and believes that Gordon Strachan's men could spring a surprise in Glasgow.

"The game has more significance for Roy Hodgson and England than it does for Gordon Strachan and Scotland. English people will expect England to win – but I'm not so sure they will," he told The Mirror.

"Scotland are playing decently, they're playing with confidence, they know they're jobs and have real belief. The players want to play for each other, the shirt as well as the manager.

"The English national team is going through a transition and I don't think it would be a great surprise if they lost to Scotland. But it would be a massive disappointment."

Scotland go into the clash on the back of a 1-0 win over the Republic of Ireland on Friday.
