Sepp Blatter has stated his belief that the amount of foreigners playing in the Premier League has been to the detriment of the English national team.
The FIFA president went on to stress that the "global" appeal of the English top flight is the major reason as to why the Three Lions have failed to challenge the likes of Spain for the World Cup and European Championships in recent year.
"The only thing they are too global with is when comparing to Spain, Italy and Germany is in the key positions of the Premier League clubs, there are too many foreigners and not enough English players," Blatter told Sky Sports News.
"The national team is not yet I have to say of the level of these national teams I just mentioned. If you look at Spain, Italy and Germany you will realise 80% or even more of the players of national team - they play in their own league."
England have not won a major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.
