The 18-year-old forward has lit up the Bundesliga alongside Jadon Sancho.

Reiss Nelson scored the sixth goal of his loan spell at Hoffenheim on Saturday, offering encouragement both to his parent club Arsenal and to England.

The 18-year-old forward has lit up the Bundesliga alongside Jadon Sancho, who has established himself at Borussia Dortmund after a permanent move from Manchester City.

Fellow prospects Mason Mount and Ademola Lookman are among those to thrive on loan in Europe in recent seasons and with Premier League opportunities still limited for English players, Press Association Sport looks at some of those taking the continental route.

Hoffenheim, Bundesliga (on loan from Arsenal)

Three of the teenager’s seven Bundesliga appearances so far have come from the bench but his impact has been phenomenal with a goal every 54.3 minutes.

He has five goals in his side’s last five league games and has had a brief taste of Champions League action as well, backing Gunners boss Unai Emery’s assessment

Jadon Sancho

The winger earned his first call into England manager Gareth Southgate’s squad last month and made his debut as a substitute against Croatia, since when he has gone from strength to strength for his club.

He has started every match since and played 90 minutes in Der Klassiker against Bayern Munich on Saturday, and leads the Bundesliga in assists with six to add to his four goals.

Patrick Roberts

Girona, LaLiga (on loan from Manchester City)

After two successful loan spells with Scottish champions Celtic, the now 21-year-old forward has spread his wings further afield this term with limited success so far.

He has made eight league appearances totalling 234 minutes, with only two starts, plus an additional 26 minutes against Alaves in the Copa del Rey, and is yet to score.

Sheyi Ojo

Reims, Ligue 1 (on loan from Liverpool)

The Reds showed long-term faith in the England Under-21 winger by extending his contract before he moved on loan to the French top-flight side, following previous spells at Wigan, Wolves and Fulham.

His league record is almost identical to that of Roberts in Spain but Ojo scored a late equaliser in his side’s Coupe de la Ligue game against Orleans. He also netted in the penalty shoot-out that followed but could not save his side from defeat to their Ligue 2 opponents.

Jake Clarke-Salter

The defender’s performances on loan during Sunderland’s Championship relegation season offered little encouragement that he could progress from the under-21s to a senior England call-up, but he has enjoyed a more productive time in Holland.

A ball-playing, left-sided centre-back, he was part of the Under-20 World Cup winning side and has captained the under-21s and has started all 12 of Vitesse’s Eredivisie games this season, playing 90 minutes on all-but-one occasion and scoring in August’s thrashing of Groningen.
