Venables calls for swift Redknapp England appointment

Former England boss Terry Venables has urged the FA to appoint Harry Redknapp as national team coach as soon as possible.

Venables said that the Spurs manager is the obvious choice to succeed Fabio Capello, and insisted that he should be given time to prepare for this summer's Euro 2012.

"I think Harry is the candidate and he has done such a capable job," The Mirror quotes Venables as saying.

"The more time you can get in, the better. There's nothing for you doing it off cold. You need everything to be in your favour because it's such a big job.

"They have to get someone in there straight away do to something about it."

England caretaker manager Stuart Pearce is reportedly confident that he will be asked by the FA to take England to the European Championships, and has already begun planning for the tournament.
