Egypt goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary apologises to fans after World Cup exit

Egypt goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary apologises to the people of his home country following the Pharaohs' World Cup exit.

Egypt goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary has apologised to the national team's supporters following their elimination from the World Cup.

The 45-year-old, who became the oldest player ever to feature at the tournament when he made the starting XI for their 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia, insisted that he and his teammates give their all at the finals.

"I apologise to the Egyptian people on my behalf, and for my colleagues, after the three defeats. We tried and did not have luck - this is football," he told reporters after the game.

"I'm proud of what I have achieved and this achievement is worthy of Egypt. I did it with all our players' help."

Egypt finished bottom of Group A with three defeats from as many matches.
