Eastleigh thrash Macclesfield Town

Eastleigh stun third-placed Macclesfield Town in the Conference Premier, clinching an emphatic 4-0 win.

Eastleigh have cruised to an emphatic win over Macclesfield Town in the Conference Premier this afternoon, thrashing their opponents 4-0.

The hosts were ahead in the opening quarter of an hour when Thierry Audel tried to block a Harry Pell header, only to turn the ball into his own net.

Lee Bell came closest to getting Macclesfield back on level terms before the break, but his long-range effort from a free kick was just high.

Eastleigh doubled their advantage early in the second half when James Constable rose highest from a corner to nod the ball past the Macclesfield keeper.

The home side added a third just seven minutes later when Daniel Spence won a free kick, leaving Jai Reason to fire it into the top corner from just outside the box.

Eastleigh continued to look the more likely, and made it four when Constable played the ball in for Deon Burton to slot into the bottom corner.

Danny Whitaker tried to get a consolation goal for the visitors, unleashing a powerful drive from 25 yards out, but it was watched all the way and saved.

Whitaker and Matthew Barnes-Homer both had chances in stoppage time, but their efforts both went wide of the target to leave Eastleigh with a clean sheet.

The result leaves Eastleigh just outside the playoff places, while Macclesfield remain third.
