James McCarthy set for Crystal Palace start

The midfielder has so far been restricted to two substitute appearances.

James McCarthy could make his full Crystal Palace debut when Colchester visit Selhurst Park in the Carabao Cup.

Eagles midfielder McCarthy has so far been restricted to two substitute appearances since a summer move from Everton, including in Saturday's surprise win at Manchester United.

Spanish midfielder Victor Camarasa, who has been left out of Palace's last two match-day squads, could make his first appearance for the club, while goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey and striker Connor Wickham are among those pushing for rare starts should Roy Hodgson make changes.

James Tomkins continues his recovery from a groin problem, while fellow centre-back Mamadou Sakho (knee) also remains unavailable.

Colchester defender Cohen Bramall returns to contention for Tuesday's second-round tie.

Bramall has completed a three-match ban following his red card during the victory over Swindon in the previous round.

He may, however, struggle to regain his place in John McGreal's starting XI after the U's recorded their first Sky Bet League Two victory of the season on Saturday.

Forward Paris Cowan-Hall is pushing for more action after returning from an Achilles problem as a substitute in the win over Northampton, while winger Luke Gambin impressed as a substitute in that game.
