Former West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic reportedly emerges as the leading contender to become the new manager of the China national team.

Slaven Bilic has reportedly emerged as the leading contender to take over as manager of the China national team.

Bilic has been out of work since November after parting company with West Ham United, but the 49-year-old is likely to be open to opportunities during the summer.

According to The Sun, that chance could come on the international scene with the Chinese Football Association allegedly considering Bilic for their main seat in the dugout.

Between 2006 and 2012, Bilic spent a successful period as coach of Croatia, but the former defender has since held three club positions at Lokomotiv Moscow, Besiktas and the Hammers.

China are keen on building a team capable of competing on the world stage, with the Asian nation currently only sitting in 73rd spot in the FIFA rankings.
