How Chile could line up against Argentina

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Chile could line up for their Copa America clash against Argentina.

Chile will look to reclaim the Copa America title they lost to Brazil in 2019 this summer when they take to the field in their baptism of fire grudge-match against regional neighbours Argentina at Rio de Janeiro's Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos on Monday night.

Two-time Copa America winners Chile were almost unplayable during their back-to-back title victories in 2015 and 2016, but time has not treated the team well and this tournament could be something of a last dance for many of Chile's stars of yesteryear.

Regardless of the future of this side, head coach Martin Lasarte only has his eye on the present and will look to get the best of Chile's old guard in order to take the country back to the head of the pack.

Goalkeeper and skipper Claudio Bravo, now 38 years old, will assume his righteous spot between the sticks for La Roja after a decent season in La Liga for Manuel Pellegrini's Real Betis.

Lasarte is expected to go with a backline composed of Mauricio Isla, Gary Medel, Guillermo Maripan and Eugenio Mena.

The midfield will likely be composed of the likes of Bayer Leverkusen skipper Charles Aranguiz, Fiorentina man Erick Pulgar and the man who redefined the term maverick, Arturo Vidal.

National legends Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas, who have 84 national team goals between them, will lead the line for Chile, and Jean Meneses could provide support for the duo.

Chile possible starting lineup: Bravo; Isla, Medel, Maripan, Mena; Pulgar, Vidal, Aranguiz, Meneses; Vargas, Sanchez
