Chicago Fire's Bastian Schweinsteiger plays down injury concerns

Bastian Schweinsteiger plays down fears that he suffered a potentially long-term injury during Chicago Fire's 4-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has played down fears that he suffered a potentially long-term injury during Chicago Fire's 4-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS on Saturday night.

Schweinsteiger, 32, suffered a hip injury in the first half of the contest, and was forced off just before the interval.

It had been suggested that the former Germany international could now be facing an extended period on the sidelines, but he took to Twitter to reassure supporters that the problem was not serious.

Schweinsteiger left Manchester United halfway through the 2016-17 campaign to join the Men in Red, and the midfielder has impressed in North America since penning a one-year contract. This season, he has scored twice in 15 MLS appearances.
