Chelsea are reportedly planning a £30m swoop to make Newcastle United captain and defender Jamaal Lascelles their 'new John Terry' this summer.

Chelsea have reportedly expressed an interest in signing Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles in the summer.

The Magpies captain has established himself in the heart of his club's backline since his move from Nottingham Forest in 2014.

Lascelles's leadership skills and defensive qualities have helped Newcastle gain distance from the Premier League's bottom three in recent weeks amid renewed optimism of survival.

According to The Mirror, Chelsea will make a £30m move for the 24-year-old in the summer after being impressed by his characteristics and performances this term, with the Blues hierarchy comparing him to a young John Terry.

Lascelles has made 95 appearances for Newcastle over the last four years.
