Cesar Azpilicueta out of Marseille's Europa League squad

Speculation regarding a potential move for Cesar Azpilicueta to Chelsea has gathered pace this afternoon following the revelation that the Spanish defender has been left out of Marseille's Europa League squad.

The 22-year-old had been expected to feature during tomorrow's qualifier against FC Sheriff Tiraspol.

However, had he done so, he would not have been able to represent another club in European competitions until the winter.

The right-back has recently admitted that he would find it hard to turn down a move to Stamford Bridge, should the Blues firm up their reported interest by making an offer.

His exclusion has led many to conclude that a deal is nearing conclusion.
