Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew insists that he is ensuring that Papiss Cisse will not experience the same drought in front of goal like that of Chelsea striker Fernando Torres.

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has insisted that he is preventing striker Papiss Cisse from ending up like "poor old" Chelsea frontman Fernando Torres.

The Senegal international has failed to make an impact so far this season and Pardew has admitted fears that he could experience a lengthy slump in front of goal like that of Torres at Stamford Bridge.

"I am taking to him and trying to calm him, tell him that he's still he same player and we are still very confident in him," The Independent quotes Pardew as saying.

"It's only been a small period if you compare it to, say Torres's period, but you would have to say it's something we are going to have to keep an eye on because we don't want it to end up like poor old Torres has ended up at times."

Cisse netted 13 goals for the Magpies last season.
