Monchi says that he is happy to have gained "a lot of money" for a player who featured just once for Roma this term, having offloaded the defender to Chelsea for £17.6m.

Roma sporting director Monchi has declared himself satisfied with the sum handed over by Chelsea to sign back-up left-back Emerson Palmieri earlier this week.

The Blues strengthened at the back by paying £17.6m for the 23-year-old, who had been used for a combined 16 minutes this season after recovering from a knee injury.

Monchi has no complaints about the transfer, having moved quickly to bring in Jonathan Silva on loan from Sporting Lisbon until the end of the campaign to plug the gap left by Emerson.

"When I arrived, I found a squad with a lot of quality and now I see them and think we are a physically, tactically and technically strong team," he told reporters. "We sold a player to Chelsea for a lot of money, who played just one match for us."

Monchi also revealed that Daley Blind was on Roma's radar, but they could not strike a deal with Manchester United on deadline day.
