Chelsea team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Villarreal

Chelsea injury, suspension list vs. Villarreal

Chelsea will attempt to win their first piece of silverware of the season on Wednesday night when they face Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup.

The Blues face an earlier start to the campaign courtesy of lifting the Champions League trophy in May, edging out Premier League rivals Manchester City.

While Thomas Tuchel is not having to contend with any injury concerns ahead of the contest in Belfast, the German has numerous selection issues ahead of the showdown with the Europa League winners.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Chelsea's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the showdown at Windsor Park.

Mason Mount

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Lack of fitness Possible return date: August 11 (vs. Villarreal)

Despite having to self-isolate during Euro 2020, Mount returned to play a regular role in England's fixtures during the latter stages. When taking into consideration his future workload, Tuchel may decide to keep the playmaker in reserve for this contest.

Thiago Silva

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Lack of fitness Possible return date: August 11 (vs. Villarreal)

Like Mount, Silva has been named in Tuchel's provisional squad for this encounter. However, after helping Brazil to the Copa America final over the summer, do not be surprised if the veteran plays no part on Wednesday night.

Jorginho

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Lack of fitness Possible return date: August 11 (vs. Villarreal)

The same way of thinking could be applied to Jorginho, who has just guided Italy to the Euro 2020 crown. With N'Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic having enjoyed a full pre-season, there appears to be little point in using Jorginho, at least from the opening whistle.

CHELSEA'S SUSPENSION LIST

Chelsea have no suspension issues ahead of this fixture.
