Second-half goals from Mike Hanke and Juan Arango prove enough for Borussia Monchengladbach, as they beat Mainz 2-0 at home in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Monchengladbach have kept alive their chances of playing in Europe next season with a 2-0 victory over Mainz at home in the Bundesliga.

Both sides had chances in the first half and came close as well, but neither failed to break the deadlock.

Then just before the hour mark the hosts went ahead through Mike Hanke, who shot home from the centre of the Mainz penalty box after being released by Tony Jantschke.

Five minutes later Juan Arango doubled Monchengladbach's advantage when he found the target.

That proved to be enough for Lucien Favre's side, who are now just a point off the final Europa League spot.
