RB Leipzig end Borussia Dortmund's unbeaten start

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scores twice but it is not enough as Borussia Dortmund fall to a 3-2 loss at the hands of RB Leipzig.

Borussia Dortmund have fallen to a 3-2 defeat to RB Leipzig at the Westfalenstadion to see their unbeaten start to the Bundesliga campaign come to an end.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted twice for the league leaders, including the opening goal of the contest early on, but it was not enough as BVB's run without a defeat ended after seven games in a contest that finished with both sides down to 10 men.

Dortmund remain top despite their first domestic defeat under boss Peter Bosz, while Leipzig - who finished one place higher than their opponents last season - climb within three points of the summit.

Aubameyang opened the scoring for his side inside the opening four minutes after Stefan Ilsanker was caught in possession, allowing the Gabon international to break clear and finish clinically.

Leipzig had looked the brighter up until that point and it did not take them long to level, as Marcel Sabitzer reacted quickest to get to the ball when it was headed back into the box to beat Roman Burki.

From the next big chance in the match the visitors were ahead, scoring their second through Yussuf Poulsen after he appeared to get the final touch to the ball following some impressive work down the flank.

There was a real end-to-end feel to the match as half time approached, with the final chance of the opening 45 minutes falling the hosts' way, but some frantic Leipzig defending kept them at bay.

A game-changing moment arrived 49 minutes in as Sokratis Papastathopoulos gave away a penalty and was shown a red card, giving Jean-Kevin Augustin the chance to put his side two goals in front.

Augustin made little mistake in converting past Burki, but moments later Ilsanker was also dismissed for a couple of quick-fire yellow cards.

To balance things out completely, the referee pointed to the spot at the other end when Aubameyang was bundled over and the leading scorer slotted home.

Dortmund had chances to rescue a point, with Andriy Yarmolenko missing two good chances and Aubameyang another, though the Bulls held on for a third win on the bounce.
