Blackburn vs. Rotherham - prediction, team news, lineups

Blackburn Rovers welcome Rotherham United to Ewood Park in the Championship on Saturday, looking to bounce back from their sixth defeat of the season in midweek.

Rotherham, meanwhile, are looking for their first win under newly-appointed manager Matthew Taylor, who drew his first game in charge against Millwall on Wednesday.

Match preview

Rovers come into the game at Ewood Park in indifferent form following their 1-0 defeat at Cardiff City on Tuesday.

Jon Dahl Tomasson's side had started the season well with three successive wins, but have stuttered slightly as of late, particularly away from home.

Mark Harris scored the winner in South Wales, leaving Blackburn outside the playoffs on goal difference.

Home form has not been an issue, though, with four wins from six - including last weekend's against Millwall - giving Rovers the fifth-best home record in the division.

Rotherham will hope to move on quickly with their new man at the helm after Paul Warne's departure to Derby County last month.

Taylor arrived on Tuesday, joining from League One Exeter City, and oversaw his first game at the New York Stadium against Millwall 24 hours later.

Dan Barlaser scored a penalty in the opening 10 minutes to give The Millers the lead, only for Zian Flemming to equalise for The Lions just before half time.

The Millers have only won one of their last five games but find themselves sitting in 13th, just three points outside the top six themselves, and have one of the better defensive records in the league, conceding just nine times.

They are winless away from home, however, with one defeat to go with three draws so far this season.

Team News

Sam Gallagher could be in line to return to the starting lineup after making an appearance from the bench on Tuesday.

Sam Hedges is the only long-term absentee from the Blackburn team, meaning Tomasson could revert back to the team that beat Millwall in their last home game.

Taylor made no changes to the starting 11 for his first game but could be tempted to tinker with the squad having spent a few more days with the players.

Peter Kioso is still missing with the injury he suffered earlier in the season, while Lee Peltier made a first appearance in more than a month on Wednesday night so could get some more minutes in Lancashire.

Conor Washington was withdrawn before the hour mark on Wednesday, so Tom Eaves could be in line to replace him from the start.

Blackburn Rovers possible starting lineup:

Kaminski; Hyam, Ayala, Wharton; Hedges, Travis, Morton, Pickering; Gallagher, Dolan, Brereton-Diaz

Rotherham United possible starting lineup:

Johansson; Hall, Wood, Harding; Barlaser; Norton-Cuffy, Wiles, Rathbone, Bramall; Ogbene, Eaves

We say: Blackburn Rovers 2-1 Rotherham United

Blackburn have been very good at home, and Rotherham are yet to win away so the hosts should be just too strong.

The Millers have been good defensively, though, so it won't be easy for Rovers.
