Chris Hughton believes that Birmingham City deserved more after their home defeat to Nottingham Forest, but he insists that his team must improve.

Birmingham City boss Chris Hughton said that his team were unfortunate to have their unbeaten home record ended by relegation-battling Nottingham Forest.

The 2-1 loss was the Blues' first defeat at St Andrews in 16 games and it also brought to an end a 15-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

Despite feeling that the result was harsh on his team, Hughton admitted that his side were below par.

He said: "The performance was disappointing but, at 1-1, I thought we were going to get a result.

"You always hold up your hands if a team come and play really well and deserve to win but generally I don't think, although it was not one of our better performances, we deserved to lose the game.

"That makes it even more disappointing to lose to a Nottingham Forest side I believe will avoid relegation."

Birmingham are now seven points below West Ham United, who occupy the second automatic-promotion place in the Championship table.
