Birmingham close to appointing Cotterill?

Steve Cotterill has reportedly held advanced talks with Birmingham City over the vacant managerial position at St Andrew's.

Earlier this month, the Birmingham hierarchy opted to part ways with Harry Redknapp after just 13 matches in charge, with the club sitting in the relegation zone of the Championship table.

Lee Carsley has since guided the club to four points from two games against Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday respectively, but it appears that a permanent replacement for Redknapp will be named shortly.

According to Sky Sports News, the West Midlands outfit could make an announcement over Cotterill's appointment before Saturday's fixture with Hull City.

Cotterill is no stranger to the club, having worked on Redknapp's backroom staff at the end of the last campaign as Birmingham survived relegation on the final day of the season.

The 53-year-old's last role as a boss came at Bristol City, where he guided the Robins to the League One title in 2014-15.
