Kevin De Bruyne opens up on criticism of Belgium performances

De Bruyne opens up on WC criticism

Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has responded to criticism that he cannot perform for his country to the same level as he does for Manchester City.

Despite winning 3-0 in their opening World Cup game against Panama, the 27-year-old failed to impress some of his country's fans.

However, De Bruyne believes that taking on a more significant role for the Red Devils will help him to improve on the international stage.

'I didn't [play to my potential for Belgium] before because I was young and I didn't have the profile I have now,' De Bruyne told RTBF.

"From now on, I have to shoulder my responsibility," the midfielder admitted, describing his new role as the "boss" of Roberto Martinez's attacking line.

Belgium will play Tunisia on Saturday in their second Group G fixture.
