Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Bayern Munich could line up for Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg with Villarreal.

Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first leg with Villarreal at the Estadio de la Ceramica could see Alphonso Davies make his comeback in a Bayern Munich shirt.

The Canada international is closing on a long-awaited return from myocarditis and had announced that he has pencilled in Saturday's clash with Augsburg as hie potential comeback date, but he is in the travelling party for Wednesday's game.

Corentin Tolisso is set for at least a few weeks on the sidelines with the thigh issue he picked up in the recent win against Freiburg, while Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is nursing a knee injury and recently tested positive for COVID-19. Bouna Sarr is also absent due to a tendon problem.

Lucas Hernandez ought to continue at left-back in spite of Davies's imminent return, while Niklas Sule's experience could be preferred at the back alongside Dayot Upamecano as Tanguy Nianzou makes way.

Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka's spots in the midfield are safe, even though Marcel Sabitzer found the back of the net off the bench for Julian Nagelsmann's side at the weekend.

Thomas Muller is set to continue just ahead of his compatriots, while Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman's inclusions would leave Serge Gnabry as the unlucky one left on the bench.

Robert Lewandowski took just 23 minutes to chalk up a hat-trick in his side's last-16 second leg with Red Bull Salzburg and will hope to add to his 12 Champions League goals here.

Bayern possible starting lineup: Neuer; Pavard, Sule, Upamecano, Hernandez; Kimmich, Goretzka; Sane, Muller, Coman; Lewandowski
