Julian Palmieri's volley shocks Paris Saint Germain as Bastia win 4-2

Palmieri stunner shocks PSG

A volley from Julian Palmieri helped Bastia gain a shock 4-2 win over Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain this evening.

PSG have been below par so far this campaign, but a goal from Lucas Moura after 10 minutes got them off to the perfect start.

A through ball from Yohan Cabaye was well controlled by the Brazilian, who struck the ball across goal to score.

They then doubled their lead 10 minutes later as Blaise Matuidi robbed Sebastien Squillaci of the ball in defence and the resulting break saw Adrien Rabot get on the end of a cross to poke the ball home.

This seemed to knock Bastia into life and after a speculative cross into the box hit Gregory van der Wiel on the arm, Ryad Boudebouz stepped up to send Nicolas Douchez the wrong way and score from the penalty spot.

On the stroke of half-time, a Boudebouz cross found Francois Modesto, whose header evaded everyone to bring the scores level.

PSG had no answer to Bastia's tactics after the break, with Javier Pastore and Zlatan Ibrahimovic finding themselves swamped with defenders whenever they received the ball, and they suddenly found themselves behind.

After what seemed to be a relatively nonthreatening corner was headed away, Palmieri to hit a cracking volley which dipped to end up in the top left corner.

Palmieri then got his second of the night one minute from time, with Abdoulaye Keita breaking down the right with a rapid counter-attack before his cross was poked in by the defender.

The result leaves PSG in third and Bastia out of the relegation zone into 14th place.
