Bayern Munich have rounded off their Group D campaign with a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid at the Allianz Arena to set a new Champions League record for successive home wins.
The Bavarian giants earned the victory through Robert Lewandowski's first-half free kick, but the win does not alter things at the top as Atletico had already confirmed their place as group winners.
Atletico themselves were looking to make some personal history this evening, but they missed out on becoming just the sixth team to win all six of their group games, falling just short with their third successive loss on German soil.
With both sides opting to make a handful of changes, it took until the 11th minute before the first real fruitful attacking move of the contest.
A flicked through-ball from Antoine Griezmann was latched on to by Yannick Ferreira Carrasco, who failed to get the better of Manuel Neuer from close range when seeking his 12th goal in 14 outings for club and country.
Despite Bayern seeing more of the ball, it was Atleti who created the next big opening soon after when Carrasco - the matchwinner in the last meeting between the pair - held his run perfectly and volleyed Lucas Hernandez's left-sided cross down the middle for Neuer to again keep out in a simple enough manner.
That would prove to be as good as things got for the Spanish side in the remainder of the match, with Bayern growing more into things and coming close after Douglas Costa found space but saw his shot blocked by Jan Oblak at his near post.
The breakthrough moment arrived just short of the half-hour mark, coming via a Lewandowski free kick - a carbon copy of the one scored late on to seal the points against Mainz 05 last Friday.
The ball flew over the wall and past Oblak's reach into the top corner, ensuring that Atleti - who had not conceded in their previous four outings - would have to show a little more attacking impetus.
A shock 3-2 defeat in Rostov last time out for Bayern meant that they would have to settle for second place, but they were still desperate for three points this evening which they almost wrapped up prior to the hour.
Arjen Robben was played through, only for his run to be halted by a covering opposition player just as he was readying himself to shoot, before Costa sent his finessed shot down Oblak's throat.
Gaps were beginning to open up at the back for Die Rotten to expose, which Robben again made the most of as he burst through before going to ground inside the box under minimal contact from Stefan Savic.
The theme of the game continued heading into the final quarter - Bayern still dominating the possession stakes, with Lewandowski heading over following a right-sided Robben cross.
Substitute Angel Correa dragged a shot wide from a rare visiting attack, yet it should have been game over up the other end moments later as, after Juan Bernat burst into some space and spotted Costa down the left, a ball rolled across goal was somehow placed over the bar from three yards out by Thiago Alcantara.
It mattered little in the end as Bayern, who last failed to top their group in 2010, saw things through with ease to put their humiliating defeat of a fortnight ago firmly behind them.
