Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish expressed his pride at the club's younger players after Saturday's 1-1 draw at Liverpool.

Luis Suarez's late strike denied Villa the three points at Anfield following Chris Herd's well-taken opener.

"It's a terrific point when you look at the other results," said McLeish.

"We were under caution in the second half, a constant bombardment of crosses and guys like Steven Gerrard firing in almost undefendable deliveries.

"The boys are disappointed we capitulated, but the first-half performance was great and I'm so proud of the young players, helped of course by the experienced members of the team."

The draw on Merseyside has moved 15th-placed Villa six points away from the relegation zone.
