Shay Given hopes to impress Tim Sherwood

Aston Villa keeper Shay Given hopes that his performance against Leicester in the FA Cup on Sunday proves to new boss Tim Sherwood that he still has something to offer.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Shay Given has expressed hope that his FA Cup performance against Leicester City on Sunday has proved to new manager Tim Sherwood that he still has something to offer.

The 38-year-old fell out of favour at Villa Park under previous boss Paul Lambert, with Brad Guzan and Jed Steer moving ahead of him in the pecking order.

Given, who played alongside Sherwood at Blackburn Rovers at the start of his career, made several crucial saves in the 2-1 win, which moves Villa into the quarter-finals of the cup.

"When the new manager comes in it's a clean slate for everyone," Given told the Glasgow Evening Times.

"I have plenty to offer and I hope that Tim sees that today."

Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Sherwood was named as Lambert's successor on Saturday.
