Arsenal transfer news: Chance of Mikel Arteta signing "perfect" £86m target is slim as Premier League title defence begins

Arteta’s chance of signing "perfect" £86m target is slim as PL defence begins

Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti has insisted that he is not worried about interest from Arsenal in Kenan Yildiz in the final weeks of the transfer window.

The Gunners began their title defence in perfect fashion, beating Coventry City 3-0 at the Emirates on Friday, with the club taking an early lead in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta has been backed with reinforcements across the pitch, including defender Ezri Konsa and midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, though the Londoners are thought to still be keen on making further signings in the forward line.

Recent reports have suggested that Arsenal hold interest in Juventus winger Yildiz, who would appear to be an alternative to Morgan Rogers.

However, Juve head coach Spalletti was not bothered by speculation, when he told reporters: "They can offer whatever they like, I want Yildiz here. I experience it calmly because the player is Yildiz. From my point of view, it's simple. They can offer whatever they want.

"I want to be able to field Yildiz next season, and Yildiz is a guy who is perfect to have mature conversations with, and consequently, he knows very well that he shouldn't rush anything, that he shouldn't speed anything up. His future is already important at Juventus.

"It's not important because someone offers €100m (£85.64m) or because there is a club that has the financial power to spend at this moment. He is already at the club that offers €100m for him. So, we are all very calm."

Yildiz is expected to be part of the Juventus squad that faces Frosinone on Sunday, and with the September 1 transfer deadline approaching, Arsenal are running out of time to complete a deal.

Kenan Yildiz latest: Do Arsenal have a strategy with their transfer targets?

There are some concerns from the Londoners' fanbase that the club do not necessarily have a defined strategy for their forward line this summer.

Rogers was reported to be their primary target, only for the Englishman to sign for Chelsea, while their subsequent interest in Vinicius Junior was never likely to materialise into a transfer.

Yildiz has been linked in recent days, as have Julian Alvarez and Victor Osimhen, but all of the aforementioned players are different in terms of playstyle.

There is a risk that signing the wrong player could be as detrimental as not bringing in anybody, so Arsenal must make sure that they do not make a costly mistake in the transfer market.

Mikel Arteta summer targets: Do Arsenal need to sign a winger?

Most Arsenal supporters are keen for the club to bring in a forward for the left side of attack, though it should be remembered that the Gunners did sign Christos Tzolis.

The 24-year-old was impressive against Coventry, though it remains to be seen if he can reach the level of productivity that Arteta needs, especially as he has spent the last two seasons in the Belgian Pro League.

If there is budget for a marquee signing that fits stylistically in their forward line, then Arsenal should explore every possible avenue before the closure of the transfer window.
