Thomas Tuchel: 'I was never in frame for Arsenal'

Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel reveals that he "never got in touch" with Arsenal about becoming Arsene Wenger's successor.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he "never got in touch" with Arsenal about becoming Arsene Wenger's successor.

Tuchel was linked with the Gunners job following Wenger's announcement in April that he was to leave his post in North London, but Arsenal eventually appointed former PSG coach Unai Emery.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Tuchel said that he had made up his mind before Wenger decided to leave the Emirates Stadium.

"To be honest I made my decision before Arsene Wenger made his decision," the German said. "I never got in touch and I made the decision to move to Paris before Wenger took the decision to resign.

"I never got in touch and I made the decision to move to Paris before Wenger took the decision to resign. I don't know if I was ever meant to be his successor or not. I didn't think about it because there was no question in the situation I was."

Tuchel added that he expects Wenger to continue in management following his exit from Arsenal.

"He will keep on coaching," the coach said. "It isn't my right to talk about him but I imagine it must be a strange feeling not to manage the shirts from Arsenal because he was more than just a coach.

"He was Arsenal, he is a gentleman, one of the biggest coaches in the world and somewhere I have the feeling he isn't finished yet."

Tuchel moved to PSG from Borussia Dortmund on a two-year deal.
