The forward had a disappointing spell at the Dons last season but has returned.

Greg Stewart felt he had unfinished business at Aberdeen and is determined to improve on his first Pittodrie spell.

Stewart dealt Kilmarnock a major blow this month when he chose to rejoin Aberdeen after scoring eight goals in 16 games in a temporary spell at Rugby Park.

The Birmingham player scored four goals in 36 appearances for the Dons last season and claims the chance to make amends for that underwhelming record was the main factor behind his switch of loan clubs.

"I just felt like I didn't do enough the first time I was here and to get that chance again... sometimes you don't get that second chance," the 28-year-old said.

"Obviously I knew most of the players and staff here so it was really just a case of coming back and trying to put things right.

"I just felt I had unfinished business from the time before, and to get the chance to come back again, I just felt that I had to take it."

Stewart, whose Blues contract expires in the summer, added: "Right now I'm not really concerned about what's going to happen next year, I just want to focus on now and try putting everything I have into Aberdeen until the end of the season and hopefully we can do something."

The former Dundee player was afforded a swift reunion with his former Killie team-mates during Saturday's goalless draw at Pittodrie.

"I just wanted to get it done as quickly as possible and obviously it was only my third game into my second spell here, so for me it was a case of getting it done with as soon as possible and get all the chat away and just concentrate on the game," he said.

"Look it's done now, and we move forward, I'm an Aberdeen player now and I just want to do well for Aberdeen."

Stewart now gets the chance to help Aberdeen into the fifth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup when they face Stenhousemuir in a replay on Tuesday.

"It was my first game back against Stenhousemuir last week, obviously we were disappointed we didn't win the game but fair play to Stenny, on the day they did a job and they went away happy with getting a replay," he said.

"We need to go there with only one thing on our mind, and that's getting through the tie no matter how we play.

"Obviously at a team like Aberdeen you want to be winning trophies. The fans are putting pressure on you to win trophies at this club and we as players need to respect that and do our best to give those fans another day at Hampden."

Ladbrokes League One bottom club Stenny followed up their 1-1 Pittodrie draw with a 1-0 win over Airdrie – their first clean sheet for three months.

And manager Colin McMenamin has taken the pressure right off his players ahead of the sell-out tie.

He told Warriors TV: "It's a hundred per cent free hit. Listen, the club will make a bit of money out it, we will get a full house, it will be a great atmosphere, but it's a bonus game for us.

"Last week was a bonus game, we are lucky we are getting a second one, and then we can focus on Stranraer next week."
