England miss out on medal in 1m springboard final, heartbreak for Scotland

England have missed out on a medal in the women's 1m springboard diving event at the Commonwealth Games.

Hannah Sterling finished in seventh place in the Royal Commonwealth Pool, while Rebecca Gallantree and Alicia Blagg, who won gold earlier this week in the women's 3m springboard, ended way down in ninth and 10th respectively.

Blagg's reverse one-and-a-half somersault on her second dive scored just 33.6 to drag down her otherwise impressive score, meaning that there was to be no medal repeat this evening.

There was also heartbreak for Scotland's Grace Reid, who was squeezed out of the medals and finished in fifth place. The 18-year-old was in second place going into the last round of dives, but her tariff was too low meaning that she was edged out by Esther Qin of Australia who took bronze, while compatriot Maddison Keeney won silver.

Jennifer Abel defended her title by recording a total score of 287.25 to claim Canada's 30th gold of the Games.
