Michael van Gerwen, Phil Taylor start Grand Slam of Darts campaign with wins

Michael van Gerwen and Phil Taylor start their Grand Slam of Darts campaigns with comfortable wins on Saturday night.

Michael van Gerwen has started his defence of the Grand Slam of Darts with a 5-2 victory over Martin Adams.

The PDC world number one was below his best against the three-time Lakeside champion but he was still able to come through with a comfortable win.

Phil Taylor also made a positive start to the tournament with a 5-1 win over Darryl Fitton, but Adrian Lewis was stunned by Scott Mitchell, who ran out a 5-1 victor in Wolverhampton.

Gary Anderson edged a last-leg decider with BDO number one Glen Durrant, while earlier in the day, Raymond van Barneveld averaged over 110 in defeating Nathan Aspinall.

The other stand-out results from Saturday's play saw James Wilson defeat Dave Chisnall by a 5-2 scoreline, and Mensur Suljovic losing 5-3 to Danny Noppert.
