Michael van Gerwen wins German Darts Championship

Michael van Gerwen records an average of 117.94 to defeat Gary Anderson in the final of the German Darts Championship.

Michael van Gerwen has won the German Darts Championship after producing one of the greatest sequences of darts ever in the final against Gary Anderson.

The world number one required just 58 darts to win his final five legs of the contest and record a 6-2 victory over the 2015 world champion with an average of 117.94.

Van Gerwen took the opening leg in 17 darts before Anderson responded to level the match, but for the remainder of the contest, the Dutchman was unplayable.

Anderson hit an 11-dart leg to reply to Van Gerwen's 12-dart effort, but the remaining four legs saw the 25-year-old deny his opponent a dart at a double as he completed two more 12-dart games with checkouts of 151 and 167 respectively.

Scores of 180, 140 and 149 helped the 25-year-old take the seventh leg in 10 darts before he sealed the triumph with his fourth 12-dart leg of a high-quality encounter.
