Van De Pas survives major scare to reach third round at Alexandra Palace

'Big Ben' was one dart away from exiting the tournament but won 5-3 in the decider.

Benito Van De Pas survived match dart before edging past Jim Long 3-2 in a tense tie-break with a 150 finish in the second round of the PDC World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace.

The Dutch thrower took the opening two sets, losing just two legs, but Canadian Long fought back to take the next set.

'Big Ben' had three darts to claim a 3-1 triumph but could not hit his doubles as Long took advantage of his reprieve to level the scores.

The qualifier then moved 3-2 ahead in the decider and had the chance to snatch victory, but Long missed double 20, with Van De Pas hitting double eight to level the scores before finishing off in style.

Kyle Anderson was pushed all the way by Noel Malicdem as the Australian set up a potential third-round clash against world number six Gerwyn Price with a 3-1 win.

The first two sets were shared before Malicdem missed four darts which would have seen him take a 2-1 lead, and Anderson made the most of the let-off.

In an entertaining match where there were 13 maximums, Anderson took advantage to win the next three legs and eventually stroll to victory.

John Henderson beat Gabriel Clemens 3-2 in the second round, hitting 120 to triumph and set up a tie against Michael Smith.

Steve West defeated Richard North 3-1 to secure his spot in the third round, taking the first and second sets before finishing things off in the fourth after North had pulled one back.
