Taylor beats Lewis in Sheffield

Phil Taylor has moved into the a playoff spot for the first time in the 2014 Premier League campaign after he earned a 7-4 win over Adrian Lewis in Sheffield.

The 16-time world champion has spent the majority of the tournament in the bottom half of the standings, but the 53-year-old now occupies fourth place after taking the final four legs to see off Lewis, who ended the night in sixth.

Michael van Gerwen remains in top spot after averaging over 104 in beating Robert Thornton 7-4, who missed double 12 to complete the perfect leg near the end of their contest.

Raymond van Barneveld has moved one point adrift of his Dutch compatriot after 7-5 triumphs over Dave Chisnall and Peter Wright respectively.

Wright slips down to third after also losing 7-4 to Gary Anderson in the second match of the evening.
