Phil Taylor: 'I'm confident of 17th world title'

Phil Taylor says that he is confident of winning a 17th world title after averaging almost 102 in his first-round clash with David Platt.

Phil Taylor has said that he has a "really good chance" of winning this year's PDC World Championship.

The 16-time winner averaged almost 102 as he eased past qualifier David Platt on Sunday night, and the world number four has suggested that a change to his preparations has provided him with renewed confidence at Alexandra Palace.

The 56-year-old told PDC.tv: "I've got a really good chance of winning it this year. I feel really confident for the first time in a long time. I've been doing things right and I've done a few things differently to prepare.

"A lot of people have been writing me off but I really think I've got a much better chance than people think. I played okay tonight and I'm looking forward to the rest of the tournament."

Taylor will face Kevin Painter in the last 32.
