Fabian Cancellara: 'tears stronger than pain'

Beijing gold medalist Fabian Cancellara was distraught following his crash in the Olympic road race.

The 31-year-old Swiss had led a pack of 32 racers with around 15km of the 250km event remaining when his bike skidded off a right turn and into a safety barrier.

Despite getting back onto his bike, he did not complete the race and was then taken to hospital where his right shoulder was scanned by x-ray.

"Have no words left. The tears are stronger then the pain. Now we are waiting in the policlinic in the athletvillage for the X-ray," Cancellara tweeted.

Cancellara's success in Beijing came in the time-trial event.
