Nino Schurter sets sights on Rio Olympic gold medal

Nino Schurter admits that he is already looking towards next year's Olympic Games in Rio.

Nino Schurter has suggested that his attention has already turned to the Olympics in Rio next year after winning European Games gold.

The 29-year-old dominated the race in Baku, making an early break before suffering mechanical problems mid-race and pulling away again to beat fellow countrymen Lukas Fluckiger and Florian Giger.

However, Schurter has hinted that his mind is now trained on becoming Olympic champion for the first time.

He told reporters: "It's an amazing feeling to win here. It's always nice to win races. It was a tactical race, especially with the strong wind.

"I know Fabian and Lukas pretty well. We are good friends and it was amazing how we were able to work together here and it is nice to be on the podium with them at the first European Games.

"Rio is a big goal for me. I have one medal missing and I'm working hard to achieve my goal there."

Schurter was beaten to gold at London 2012 by Czech Republic rider Jaroslav Kulhavy.
