England pip Wales to team sprint bronze at Commonwealth Games

England pip neighbours Wales to bronze in the women's team sprint finals at the Commonwealth Games, with host nation Australia claiming gold.

England have beaten Wales to the bronze medal in the women's team sprint at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Wales led their near neighbours at the halfway stage of the third-place contest, but England stormed back to take the final podium place in a time of 33.893.

Wales were just over half a second behind as their team of Rachel James and Eleanor Coster missed out on a medal at the hands of Lauren Bate and Katy Marchant.

Host nation Australia claimed gold in the final of the event, breaking the Games record for the second time in the same day with a time of 32.488 - almost a full second quicker than they were in the heats.

Stephanie Morton and Kaarle McCulloch held off the challenge of New Zealand duo Natasha Hansen and Emma Cumming, leading from the start on their way to the top prize.
