Canada's Catharine Pendrel dominates to take cross-country gold

Catharine Pendrel has won Canada's third successive women's cross-country gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

The 33-year-old opened up a strong lead over the chasing pack, with compatriot Emily Batty and Australia's Rebecca Henderson one minute behind.

The advantage extended to one minute and 26 seconds by the midway stage of the race, although the battle for second place was still very much on.

Despite briefly dismounting her bike to check out a tyre issue, Pendrel was still dominating proceedings and took first place with a full minute to spare.

Henderson and Batty continued to slug it out for silver, but it was the latter who prevailed to complete a Canadian one-two at Cathkin Braes Country Park.

England's Annie Last produced a strong final lap to overhaul teammate Alice Barnes to fourth.
