Zimbabwe coach sacked with two months to go until World Cup

Zimbabwe sack head coach Stephen Mandongo after five months in charge and two months ahead of the World Cup.

National team head coach Stephen Mangongo has been sacked by Zimbabwe with just eight weeks to go until the World Cup, Zimbabawe Cricket has confirmed.

Chairman Wilson Manase has said that a replacement won't be signed until after Christmas, which will give the new man less than two months to prepare for the tournament in Australia and New Zealand.

Manase is quoted on Twitter as saying: "The ZC board has decided to relieve Mangongo of his duties as Head Coach with immediate effect.

"Mr Mandongo will be redeployed to the U19 set up as we believe he is good at identifying talent."

Mandongo had been in charge since July, and led them to a famous win one-day over Australia in August, but the 3-0 Test series defeat to Bangladesh proved to be his undoing.

Zimbabwe will play South Africa India, Pakistan, West Indies, Ireland and United Arab Emirates in Pool B of the World Cup.
