West Indies in trouble against South Africa

Three wickets from Vernon Philander have put South Africa in full control at tea on the third day of the opening Test match with West Indies.

The tourists resumed the second session of the day on 110-2, still 442 runs behind South Africa's first-innings total, and their plight worsened during the opening overs after Leon Johnson was removed by Philander for 31.

Marlon Samuels and Shivnarine Chanderpaul put on 45 runs for the fourth wicket before Morne Morkel bowled Samuels for 33 to leave West Indies on 162-4.

Chanderpaul and Jermaine Blackwood soon followed for 21 and 12 respectively as the partnership of Philander and Alviro Petersen paid off twice in quick succession.

The wicket of Blackwood resulted in West Indies reaching tea on 184-6, still 168 runs from avoiding the follow-on.
