Chanderpaul century for West Indies

Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored his 24th Test century as the West Indies closed day one on 256-5 in the first Test match against India in Delhi.

The veteran batsman produced a typically dogged innings, ending the day unbeaten on 111 as the Windies recovered from 72-3.

This was partially down to young opener Kraigg Brathwaite, who contributed 63 and shared an 108 run stand with Chanderpaul for the fourth wicket.

The 18-year-old was denied a first Test ton after being stumped by MS Dhoni off the bowling of Prassana Ojha.

The off-break bowler took 3-58 and fellow spinner Ashwin recorded figures of 2-79 on a turning track in the Indian capital.
