South Africa are close to securing an unlikely draw with Australia in the second Adelaide Test, thanks largely to an unbeaten knock of 94 by Francois du Plessis.

South Africa are on the brink of securing an unlikely draw against Australia in the second Adelaide Test.

The Proteas have reached tea on day five 217 runs behind on 212-5.

Francois du Plessis has contributed an unbeaten 94, while AB de Villiers survived 219 balls and earned 33 runs before being clean bowled by Peter Siddle.

Jacques Kallis replaced De Villiers at the crease and is on 38 not out.
