Record-breaking AB de Villiers fires South Africa to 408-5

AB de Villiers scored a century off just 52 balls to help South Africa on their way to a massive total of 408-5 in this morning's Cricket World Cup meeting against the West Indies.

The Proteas skipper went on to hit 162 off 66 balls to leave the opposition needing to complete a record run-chase of 409 to win the Pool B clash in Sydney.

De Villiers struck 17 fours and eight sixes, including 30 runs off the final over, en route to setting the best team total of the tournament so far.

Hashim Amla (65) had earlier set the foundations with a half-century of his own before falling lbw, just moments after Faf du Plessis had himself been sent packing for 62.

Quinton de Kock (12), Rilee Rossouw (61) and David Miller (20) kept the tally ticking along, but the session was all about De Villiers who recorded the fastest 150 in ODI history to leave the West Indies with a mammoth task when play resumes.
