New Zealand survive late scare to overcome gritty Scotland

New Zealand hold on to snatch a narrow three-wicket run against battling Scotland.

New Zealand's batting struggled as they limped to a three-wicket win over Scotland in the World Cup today.

Scotland batted first and lost four quick wickets as Trent Boult (2-21) claimed two early scalps, but Matt Machan (56) and Richie Berrington (50) both hit fifties as they helped their team to a total of 142.

New Zealand lost both Martin Guptill (17) and Brendon McCullum (15) early on in their run chase to opening bowler Iain Wardlaw (3-49).

Kane Williamson (38) and Grant Elliott (29) steadied the ship, before several Kiwi batsman were caught in the deep as they tried to hit big shots.

However, they held on to win as Daniel Vettori hit the winning runs.
