Scotland's Preston Mommsen baffled by World Cup defeat to Afghanistan

Scotland captain Preston Mommsen says that he can't put his finger on what went wrong for his team in today's World Cup Pool A defeat to Afghanistan.

Scotland captain Preston Mommsen has admitted that he can't find a reason as to why his side succumbed to defeat against Afghanistan in their Pool A clash.

Afghanistan claimed their first ever World Cup triumph with a one-wicket victory with three balls to spare in Dunedin.

Scotland set their opponents a target of 211 after they reached 50 overs all out in their opening innings, and it was an unbeaten 27-run partnership between Hamid Hassan and Shapoor Zadran that pushed Afghanistan over the line.

"It's hard to see how we've not won that game, I'm not sure what to put it down to," BBC Sport quotes Mommsen as saying. "We threw everything at it and there were opportunities in the last few overs."

Scotland will take on Bangladesh in their next game on March 4.
