Pakistan trio "brought shame on cricketing world"

The three Pakistani cricketers that have been found guilty of conspiracy to cheat and conspiracy to obtain and accept corrupt payments "brought shame on the cricketing world", according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

The trio, who are now awaiting sentencing, brokered a deal to bowl no balls during a Test match against England at Lord's in August.

"Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir deliberately and knowingly perverted the course of a cricket match for financial gain," said CPS member Sally Walsh outside of Southwark Crown Court.

"People who had paid good money had no idea that what they were watching was not a true game and but one where part of the play had been pre-determined for cash.

"Through their actions they have brought shame on the cricketing world."

It emerged earlier this afternoon that 19-year-old Amir pleaded guilty to the charges in September.

Sentencing for all three players will begin tomorrow at 10.30am.
