Match-fixing jury unable to reach verdict

The jury currently at the centre of the match-fixing allegations made against Pakistan duo Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif have been unable to reach a unanimous verdict.

All parties were called into Southwark Crown Court a short while ago, as the judge was informed that the jury could not reach a decision that they all agreed on.

As a result the judge has told jurors that he will accept a majority verdict of 10-2, although he would prefer a unanimous decision.

There are four charges being discussed, two against each cricketer.

Former Test captain Salman Butt, 27, and fast-bowler Mohammad Asif, 28, are accused of plotting to bowl deliberate no-balls in last summer's Lord's Test against England.

The jury failed to reach the majority verdict and have been sent home by the judge.

The trial will enter a 20th day tomorrow.
