Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir appeals dismissed

Former Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir lose their appeals against jail sentences for spot-fixing.

Former Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir have lost their High Court appeals against jail sentences for spot-fixing.

Butt, who was captain of the Pakistan cricket team at the time of the offence, was contesting a sentence of 30 months for his involvement during the Test match against England.

Pace-bowler Amir, who pleaded guilty to the charges in September, received a six-month term.

Amir was hoping that his sentence would be reduced to a suspended one, while 27-year-old Butt was seeking to have his prison time lessened.

However, Lord Chief Justice decided earlier today that the original punishments will stand.

The duo were handed jail terms along with bowler Mohammad Asif and agent Mazhar Majeed earlier this month.
