Nottinghamshire release Akhil Patel

Nottinghamshire have confirmed that they will not be renewing the contract of left-hand opener Akhil Patel.

Patel joined Notts in 2009 from local rivals Derbyshire, where he made his first class debut in 2007.

"Akhil has made some good scores in second eleven and league cricket but he hasn’t scored the volume of runs in the championship that would warrant extending his contract with us," said Nottinghamshire's chief Mick Newell.

Patel is the younger brother of England all-rounder Samit.
